Description
Joshua is a book of drama and faith in action! Our study of the Bible’s first history book begins with the commissioning of Joshua to lead God’s chosen people into the Promised Land. The account highlights the invasion, conquest, and settlement of Israel’s eternal inheritance, and Joshua as a mighty warrior. As a type of Jesus Christ, he was a man “in whom God’s Spirit dwelled,” a proven servant-leader, and a man of deep faith and courage. God is portrayed as the eternal Promise Keeper, as the covenant He made with Abraham is fulfilled before the eyes of the Israelites. Major themes in this teacher guide are: 1) the victory of faith in action; 2) Yahweh, a promise-keeping God; 3) The blessings of obedience to God’s Word; 4) The character of godly leadership; 5) The rest of faith, the battle is the Lord’s! The children study the characters of Joshua, Caleb, and Rahab and reflect upon the lessons found in Achan’s disobedience. They learn two songs, memorize portions of Joshua 1 and Ephesians 6:10-18, “Put on the full armor of God,” and reflect upon their eternal inheritance in Jesus Christ. This guide includes 24 lesson plans with teacher background information; a map of the Promised Land, vocabulary cards, memory verse cards, graphic organizers, a beautiful bookmark; and parent prayer and blessing cards.
